It is my dream that Florida and the U.S. embrace, invest in and lead PK12 education with vigor. What if we did?

Dear friends,

US News & World Report published an opinion piece by me this past week. The link is below, I hope you take the time to read it.

Our schools impact our national security, our economic prosperity and our community vitality. National security is jets and ships, yes. It is also third-grade reading. It is middle-school civics and high-school algebra and career-tech/trades. It’s the teacher who keeps a curious kid engaged long enough to become a network engineer; to become a nurse or doctor; to develop the trade skills needed in this and the next era; and to become the American who does fly those jets or lead those ships.

When we fund and improve public education, we’re not doing charitable social policy; we’re investing in the very capabilities that keep our country free and functioning.

Let’s reverse the tide of divesting and reducing academic and fiscal accountability for tax dollars. To remain a leader on the global stage; to have thriving neighbors, communities and a thriving country; we can and we must lead for excellence and opportunity across PK-12 education.
